What an asynchronous motor is.

An asynchronous motor is one that operates by utilizing alternating current (AC) electrical power to induce a current in its rotor instead of using a physical power supply to produce rotation. In most electric motors, rotation is produced due to interaction between the rotor of the motor and electromagnetic fields generated in the stator. In an asynchronous motor, a connected AC power supply causes a field with alternating polarities to be generated in the windings of the stator. The opposing field that causes motion is not caused by directly introducing current into it; rather, it is the result of the adjacent electromagnetic field producing transformer-like induction. Most of the AC motors used in industrial machinery and domestic appliances are asynchronous motors.
